Tap New… and choose Novel, Essay or Thesis or Empty, then name the project. Finis saves by itself a second after the last keystroke: there is no Save command.
With iCloud Drive on, projects are created in the Finis folder of iCloud Drive: the same as on your Mac, so a chapter begun at the desk goes on on the sofa. A project still in the cloud downloads when you open it.
Open from Files… chooses a project or a folder of texts from anywhere in the Files app, even one made with Obsidian or iA Writer. To see Finis at work, open the example under Explore Finis: a copy all your own.
Already have a book? New… › Project from Word… or Project from Scrivener… brings it into a new project: from Word the chapters, notes, pictures, comments and tracked changes; from Scrivener the manuscript in the book and the rest in Notes. In an open project, Import from Word… and Import from Scrivener… are in the File menu and put everything at the end of the book: ⌘Z takes it away.
The Library has two views: Library, the projects and files you chose to keep, and Recents, those you opened lately. A new project goes in by itself; what you open from elsewhere appears in Recents, and the + on its row adds it. It isn’t a folder: everything stays where it is, and it’s the same Library as on the Mac. A Markdown or text file on its own opens like a project, with what a file alone can have: the sidebar has its name, where it is and In the Document; the inspector has Review. The Library icon, above the sidebar, takes the window back to the Library.
In the Shortcuts app, Finis offers the Mac’s two actions: Add a Note puts a text in the notes of the open project, or of the last one opened; Words Written Today gives the words written today in its book.
