Finding

A word in the document or in the whole project, or a document by its name.

In the document

Find
⌘F
Next, previous
⌘G⇧⌘G
Find and replace
⌥⌘F
Use selection for find
⌘E

The bar appears above the page. Return goes to the next match; Esc closes it and leaves the match selected. Replace changes one match or all of them, and a single ⌘Z puts them back.

In the whole project

Search in Project (⇧⌘F) shows the results in place of the sidebar: a card for each document, in book order, with names, synopses and comments apart. Below the field, choose where to look: the whole project, the document, a folder or a collection. Replace…, at the bottom, shows every change first and lets you leave some out. Save as Collection…, below it, keeps the search among the Collections, to reopen with a click.

To search with a regular expression, choose Regular Expression in the … menu of Find or Search in Project: “\bRenz\w+” finds Renzo and Renzino, “^Chapter” the paragraphs that begin that way. Accents count as you write them and a whole word is “\b”; in Replace, “$1” puts back what the first group in brackets found. An expression that cannot be read says so; one that takes too long stops, and says so too.

Going to a document

Quick Open… (⇧⌘O): type a few letters of the name and press Return; with no letters, the list shows the documents you opened last. ⌘[ and ⌘] go back and forward among the documents you visited, as in a browser. Each document reopens with the cursor where you left it.
